Rodney Furr, chief of public affairs for the 439th Airlift Wing, said that the wheel came loose as the plane made a turn on the runway shortly before takeoff. The wheel then fell off during takeoff.

Security personnel located the wheel, which is one of 28 on the aircraft, at the base.
