The assembly of the first Polish F-35A is in full swing at Lockheed Martin. In January 2020, the Polish government signed up for the purchase of 32 F-35A Lightning II fighter aircraft, to be delivered between 2026 and 2030. The fighter plane is adorned with the name 'Husarz' (hussar) in Poland.
On September 11, 2019, the US Senate Export Committee approved the delivery of F-35s to Poland. Part of that request also included the provision of training and logistical support.
The Polish Air Force currently flies the MiG-29, Su-22 and F-16, but wanted to transition to a fifth-generation fighter.
